Brahm-Canzer

BRAHM CANZER currently teaches business management courses to John Abbott College students in Montreal. During his teaching career, he was also an adjunct lecturer at McGill University and Concordia University. He has also taught undergraduate courses in a corporate learning program under the auspices of the University of Toronto. Brahm received his PhD (1995) and MBA (1976) from Concordia University in Montreal. His strong interest in the use of Internet technology in education led him to be among the first pioneers to design and teach online MBA courses for Simon Fraser University. He is a contributing author to several business textbooks and author of eBusiness: Strategic Thinking and Practice. He has helped create a variety of web-based supplemental learning materials in academic and corporate learning settings. Brahm also provides consulting services to businesses seeking assistance as they explore web-based opportunities and solutions for improving their operations.

ROSALIE HARMS – University of Winnipeg – has nearly 20 years of professional experience in financial management, business advising and consulting, economic development, teaching, and workshop development and facilitation for both the private and not for profit sectors in multiple industries. Rosalie combines her commercial and business lending background with her accounting experience to assist clients in developing realistic strategic plans and financial projections for both new ventures and expansionary projects. In 2009, she began and continues to manage a successful consulting practice specializing in supporting new start-ups with financial management and internal control, securing funding and general business coaching and support. The business has recently merged with another partner forming a new corporation, The Griffin Group, resulting in expanded company services that now include tax consulting and advice, and tax preparation.

In addition to her entrepreneurial pursuits, Rosalie is currently the Department Chair of the Department of Business and Administration, in the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Winnipeg. The department currently houses 22 full time faculty members and has 1, 500 declared majors. While managing one of the university’s largest departments is her primary focus, Rosalie remains passionate about her teaching areas, which include entrepreneurship and accounting. She has contributed to numerous textbooks as a subject matter expert within these disciplines. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant (legacy CMA) (CPA, CMA) and also holds an undergraduate degree in Administrative Studies and Economics from the University of Winnipeg in addition to an MBA from the I.H. Asper School of Management at the University of Manitoba.

PETER MICHAEL MOREIRA

PETER MICHAEL MOREIRA, Accounting Instructor – University of Winnipeg, has over 15 years of professional experience in financial management, economic development, business consulting, planning, and teaching. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (Legacy CGA) (CPA, CGA), holds a Master in Business Administration (MBA) graduate degree, and a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) undergraduate degree. Managing clients and developing effective relationships has been a big part of his career that started during his time with RBC Royal Bank, continued during his role in economic development with the Province of Manitoba Government, to his current business consulting practice as a partner in The Griffin Group. His experience includes key roles in the establishment (start-up), expansion, and successful succession/sale, of many businesses in Manitoba. His ability to provide advice and planning to businesses and organizations in a wide variety of industries comes from this previous experience, along with the experience gained in a previous role working in a CFO capacity with the Province of Manitoba Government as an Assistant Deputy Minister. In addition to his consulting practice, Peter shares his knowledge and experience as a continuing Faculty Member with the University of Winnipeg, in the Faculty of Business and Economics, and is a regular Session Leader in the Professional Education Program with the CPA Western School of Business.

In addition to helping clients realize success, Peter is actively involved in the Portuguese Community of Winnipeg, serving as a Treasurer in one of their non-profit, cultural organizations. He has also been a musician for 30 years and loves sharing his craft with his family and friends. As well, being the father of three children keeps him both busy and grounded to what is truly important in life.

Michael Kahn

MICHAEL KHAN is an Associate Professor, Teaching Stream at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. He teaches in both the MBA and Commerce programs and has won awards for excellence in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. His involvement in professional accounting training includes teaching for the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario. Michael is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) and holds an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, York University. He also has specialized professional designations in the field of information technology audit and governance (CISA—Certified Information Systems Auditor; CGEIT—Certified in the Governance of Enterprise Information Technology; and CITP—Certified Information Technology Professional). His professional experience includes internal and external audit, accounting, and consulting positions at Ernst & Young, Deloitte, Rogers Communications, and George Weston Limited. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling and scuba diving.

 

DAVID KURTZ and LOUIS (GENE) BOONE were longtime co-authors of many editions of this textbook. Kurtz is a former professor at the University of Arkansas and the author of many books and articles. Boone received his doctorate in marketing along with Kurtz and was late professor emeritus at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. Together, Kurtz and Boone produced more than 50 books and textbooks and collaborated on many other projects, as well as being involved in various entrepreneurial ventures. Their decades-long partnership ended with Gene’s death in 2005, but Contemporary Business will always bear the mark of their work together
